ok ive got a friend who is getting rid of his z3, he wrecked it but no frame damage was done and he's already bought the new hood and bumper.
but he is keeping the lights, motor, trans, and wheels for his other z3 in case something goes wrong with it.
so basically he's giving me a rolling shell for super cheap.. now i'm going to have a title on it once i go get a bonded title (he lost it) but my questions are..
which motor and trans are best to go in it? and if i just wanted to make it into a track car what should i put in it?

Check out the Z3 subsection on Bimmerforums.com.....I could just guess and say an LS1... but I could be wrong.
Unless you have the time and money to waste, I would not touch this project.

I tried getting some forum topics for you, but really didn't get much. I did get a LS1 swap youtube video though.
Like Dingle said you certainly have a doozy!!! If you do go with it though, it would be neat.

rb25 or 1jz will pull a premium a week before race wars. lol the z3 came stock with an inline 6 right. an rb25 and 1jz are both turbo inline 6 all you'd have to do is figure out a way to mount it, custom driveshaft, and wiring scheme or you could just megasquirt it.

A stroked 383 aint much bigger then a ls1 which is a 346. Goodluck with the project, you go more time then me, lol

as other people have already said, I would not jump into this project without researching or deep pockets. I can vouch for this.

if you're worried about a 300 dollar bike conflicting with this project then I wouldnt choose this platform to build from.
i pm'd you, sir.

well its not that. it just right now i could use something cheaper on gas lol so if i got the bike i could sell my car.. then that would free up money for this project or something better.. like my 77 maro..

How cheap is cheap on this shell? For a auto shell minus all the shit that he is taking off I would say that it is only worth scrap metal price.

$200.00 gets steering, suspension, body and frame.

still wouldn't do it. I think a year is being optimistic and I see this car ending up half finished . If you have the money to throw at this then just buy an E36 m3 or something.

a year is optimistic. I've got a horror story to go with that.
