Forced Induction is cramming more air into the cylinder, nitrous does just that. Thus Nitrous = forced induction.

He's right....using caps doesn't make your argument more valid.

And you're arguing something I did not disagree with. I said nitrous was a power adder, but not forced induction. So one could say that I was not questioning forced inductions' designation as a power adder as well.

Tim,

Nitrous and superchargers/turbos work differently. If you don't already understand this, I don't care to explain it.

Guys come on, lets not start some excess pages of arguments/quotes here.

Nitrous could maybe be f/i, cause your forcing something in that was not originally there. I mean it doesn't run off exhaust manifolds, or pullies but i never did understand it how it wasn't under F/I.

Then again now tha tI think about it, all the other forums on have specifically a Turbo Thread, s/c thread and nitrous thread all broken down into 3.

I agree with will though. What ever it takes to win.

Nitrous is not forced induction, it's a chemical reaction inside the cylinder. There is no "forced"

Turbo, SC, and Nitrous are all power adders.

nitrous isnt flammable. LIKE AT ALL.

Sigforty
02-17-2009, 03:38 PM
nitrous isnt flammable. LIKE AT ALL.

Correct, What nitrous does is inject more Oxygen into the engine. With that you need to add more fuel. So why not just inject more Oxygen (pure) some say. Well pure Oxygen will cause the cylinder temperature to skyrocket and thus melt most of the metal engine parts. So using Nitrous Oxide, which contains the buffer element Nitrogen, helps control cylinder temperatures and increase the cylinder Oxygen content thus producing more cylinder pressure during combustion creating more power.

Nitrous = Chemical Inducation. It is not flammable until the chemical seperates in the combustion chamber. It also drop air temps instantly. I always see people with dry shots injecting right up to the TB.

That is a risky way to run a dry shot. They must be using small shots.

Glad somebody wasn't as lazy as me, and explained my point.....and the idea of spraying at the TB isn't risky, as long as the vehicle is tuned for it. If not, I hope he meant wet.

Well, even for it to work best you would have to swap tunes. Who wants to run around running rich all the time because you have a dry shot at the TB.

I know of at least one engeine management system that lets you set up a nitrous enrichment table so you can run dry and when the switch is on it'll dump more fuel. (AEM's standalone does it)

i would say forced induction since you are forcing more oxygen into the motor then is naturally possible
